Bali --- Indonesia is not the most corrupt countries in the world. In
2012, Indonesia in ranks of 118 from 174 countries. This ranking is based on
the corruption perception index Transparency International version. Indonesia
is not Somalia, a country which is at the first rank position. But what have
been done by Bali police officer who take bribery action on Netherlands tourist several days ago was a
task that must be resolved immediately, although it will not influence
Indonesia rank.
Kees van der Spek video that caught two Bali police officers
who offered a settlement of Rp. 200,000 instead so as not to be trial on court and
pay more, this case make the most of Indonesian people are concerned. Yes, how can we treat "state guests"
who have painstakingly come up with their own money to "our house"
and then we rob him? The Video uploaded on youtube and then spread widely even
then provoke much discussion and criticism from various parties. Police as law
enforcement agencies received another slur caused by bad action of two officer.
Van der Spek case is actually not a
big case. This Dutch tourist who commit
traffic violations for not wearing a helmet and chose the offer from the
police who arrested him has become such a big case because both local and
international media successfully blow it up. Though judging by the amount of
money that was corrupted only Rp. 200,000, far less than Hambalang corruption
or Bank Century. But that was the essence of corruption, rather than on the
amount of money, but more on the act of corruption itself. And don’t forget with when and where it take
place.
From this incident
certainly we can take and make a valuable lesson. Corruption is one of the
chronic diseases in Indonesia should immediately look for a cure. Otherwise, we would be harmed by the news that
makes us as if we are a very corrupt
country. And one more thing, embarrassing
events that happened in this most visited island must not repeated for the
second time. At least if it can not be avoided, to commit extortion against
tourists the one that we should respect,
at least do not get caught on camera.
Hopefully Bali Police are currently hunting for the presence
of Dutch tourists Kees van der Spek will successfully find him.
He is a good agent who has done a good deed and reminded us. And of
course thera are many people who want to reward him. Although according to the
rules of law in Indonesia all acts of corruption, bribery or corruption both perpetrators and recipients both could be sentenced. But the law will give
a wise consideration to Kees van if he is proven guilty.
We all know that the
point of this video is a disgraceful act and the police corruption that needs
to be resolved. This bribery case which
happened maybe not worth billions, but the effect of this case really means a
lot, especially for tourism in Bali. Indonesian
tourism still needs to improve and give better service to all.
Van der Spek did the wrong thing although minor but his actions have ruined the life of a man trying to feed a family in a country like so many others that corruption is part of the culture. Now if you get caught in Bali riding with out a helmet and no licence you will probably be thrown in Kerokaban for a day. This dutch idiot has spoilt the already known fact that you pay and all is ok and I hope he goes back and they do throw him in jail to prove a point.
