Yogyakarta, Alternative Destination on Nyepi Day

The number of Tourists visiting Yogyakarta on Nyepi (silence day of Hindu) holiday has increased significantly. Apparently the condition of Nyepi day in Bali provide benefits for Yogyakarta. On the day of Nyepi , tourist could go out or into the island of Bali. The Airport and harbor in Bali totally shut down for 24 hours during Nyepi day. So travelers who want to go to Bali are advised to come earlier before Nyepi day or even postpone after Nyepi day. Although some tourists deliberately want to enjoy Bali in a different atmosphere, but there are also tourist who try to look for alternative destinations to other cities, including Yogyakarta.

But the increase of tourists visiting Yogyakarta only give little impact on occupancies level to Yogyakarta hotels. For a non-star hotels and the star, it is predicted that the increase in the occupancy rate of only 10 percent to 20 percent.
Tourists visiting Yogyakarta at the Nyepi holiday, still centered in the tourist area of Malioboro, King’s Palace, Prambanan-Ratu Boko temple and beach. Just for you know that most foreign tourists visiting Yogyakarta came from the Netherlands, Malaysia, France, Japan and Germany, Australia and the United States. Based on data from the year 2012, tourist visit number to Yogyakrta reach 197,750 people. Hopefully in 2013 there will be an increase.

Yogyakarta is still have to work hard to build supporting infrastructure and continue to promote tourism so that both local and foreign traveler will return to make Yogyakarta as a major tourist destination, not just an alternative. Yogyakarta has a lot of special thing that can not be found in other province.
