Borobudur, The Must Visited Temple In Java Land

Borobudur temple is the pride of the Indonesia.  As   a proof of the greatness of Indonesia in the past, Borobudur deserves to be proud. Moreover, when the Borobudur established as one of the seven wonders of the world and in 1991 established by UNESCO in the World Heritage List (World Wonder Heritages).


This magnificent temple built by the Sailendra dynasty between the years 750-842 AD  have ever been buried by a massive eruption of cold lava of Mount Merapi in about the year 950 AD.  Borobudur was found  during  British occupation of Indonesia in 1814. Governor-General Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles who took great interest in the history of Java, he collected Javanese antiques and made notes through contacts with local inhabitants during his tour throughout the island. On an inspection tour to Semarang in 1814, he was informed about a big monument deep in a jungle near the village of Bumisegoro.  He then sent H.C. Cornelius, a Dutch engineer, to make  investigation.  Cornelius worked so hard. He  and his 200 men cut down trees, burned down vegetation and dug away the earth to reveal the monument. Due to the danger of collapse, he could not unearth all galleries. He reported his findings to Raffles including various drawings.  It was  a great discoveries in history, the discovery of huge archaeological objects in the village of Bumisegoro, Magelang, Central Java, it then becomes the history of the nation of Indonesia.

Borobudur is built as a single large stupa, and when viewed from above takes the form of a giant tantric Buddhist mandala, simultaneously representing the Buddhist cosmology and the nature of mind. The foundation is a square. It has nine platforms, of which the lower six are square and the upper three are circular. The upper platform features seventy-two small stupas surrounding one large central stupa. Each stupa is bell-shaped and pierced by numerous decorative openings. Statues of the Buddha sit inside the pierced enclosures.

This beautiful temple is a must visited place for travelers who come to Indonesia, especially Java Island. Borobudur is the icon of tourism of Indonesia.  It is the biggest Buddhist monument in the world.

How to go to Borobudur from Yogyakarta.
Supposed you have been in Yogyakarta, Borobudur is  esay to reach. Travelling by a rent car you just need 45 min from the northern part of Yogya and about one hour from central Yogya. But if bus is your choice, you must consider to avoid visiting on  weekends or holidays. There will be a lot of visitors, including local visitor using this cheap public transportation. 

Borobudur located 42 km northwest from Yogyakarta. Traveller can  easily go by public transport from Jombor or  Giwangan Bus Station in Yogyakarta. And the price is cheap enough, you just spend  about $ 10,00 to go to Borobudur from these two Bus Station
