Welcome to the City of Surakarta!

Welcome to the City of Surakarta! Welcome to the Solo! Welcome to the City "Spirit of Java"!

For some people, they think of Surakarta and Solo are two different cities. As a friend, a tourist from the U.S.  asked me if Solo and Surakarta was adjacent location? He .. he ... he ... just maybe my friend does not  too often brows on internet ot find this famous tourist city of Central Java. For more articles on travel, almost always mention that Solo is another name of Surakarta

Surakarta or Solo is a city that has a very strong character of Javanese culture, perhaps even the most powerful among other cities in Central Java. The cultural character of the city can not be separated from the two large kingdom in the past, the Ancient Mataram Kingdom (Hindu Kingdom) and the Islamic Mataram Kingdom. Two great kingdoms in Java has a very strong influence for today's city of Solo.
Even some of the surrounding districts such as Solo, Boyolali, Klaten, Sragen, Purwodadi, Wonogiri, Sukoharjo, Karanganyar,  Magetan, Pacitan, Ngawi, Madiun, and Tulungagung and of course the Yogyakarta province is considered to have characteristics Mataraman. The Javanese  located in the region known as the stereotype of the Mataram who have a habit of using the Java language subtle different from other areas in Central Java. Apart from the language, the Javanese Mataram is a culture that has a full Javanese strong and mystical tradition.

Surakarta is one of 20 major cities in Indonesia. Located at an altitude of 100 meters above sea level, on the slopes of lowland  of Mount Lawu. The city has a hot enough of temperature.  As the cultural center of Java with the slogan "The Spirit Of Java", Solo has become a popular destination for tourists, both local and foreign. Usually, tourists visiting to see the Kraton Surakarta Surakarta, where Sunan Pakubuwono live and Puri Mangkunegaran, where Prince Mangkunegara located.  At the palace, tourists can see the architecture of the palace and all the equipment that is still in active use, until now. Some Javanese tradition that is still very sacred and sublime can be seen when the  Palace is organizing the event.

From several Batik Cities in Java,  Pekalongan, Yogyakarta, Banyumas, Kudus ,  Solo is the largest batik center in Central Java. In Surakarta travelers can find a place where the village of batik batik craftsmen to live and work. They make batik as their daily work and  they can sell directly to tourists or marketed to the traditional to the modern retail market. Kampung Batik Laweyan is a village where batik makers in Solo are.
